What is this warning?

California's Proposition 65 entitles California consumers to special warnings for products that contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm if those products expose consumers to such chemicals above certain threshold levels. While selling products that contain any of the listed chemicals is not prohibited, any company that does business in California is required to notify consumers if any of their products contain a chemical that is listed on the Prop 65 list.

Why do I see Prop 65 warnings on select product packages?

We understand that our customers may be curious about warnings related to California’s Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly known as Proposition 65 (Prop 65), which can be found on select packages of our products, so we wanted to provide additional information and context for these warnings. We hope this information helps our customers continue to make informed purchasing decisions.

Prop 65 is a “right-to-know” law intended to inform California citizens about exposures to certain chemicals in consumer products, including food. Specifically, Prop 65 identifies a list of over 900 chemicals that are known to increase the risk of cancer or reproductive harm when exposure is sufficiently high or frequent. Prop 65 requires companies to post warnings when products sold within California contain certain levels of any of the 900-plus identified chemicals. Even products like ours that are produced with high quality ingredients can contain low levels of impurities that are on the Prop 65 list.

Prop 65 warnings do not indicate whether a product is “safe” or “unsafe” to consume. In fact, the levels of chemicals that trigger Prop 65 warnings are significantly lower than levels that would cause a safety concern. We take pride in our products and want to make clear that we would never sell any product we believe to pose a hazard.
